pianist, composer, arranger, teacher....
Andy Cholerton
After finishing my degree and post graduate teaching qualification I got a fabulous job teaching at King James’ School, Knaresborough which I thoroughly enjoyed for seven years. Teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs and I have to say that Aristotle was spot on. There is no better way to understand something than to teach it to someone else.
I left King James’ in 1997 and went to Wakefield College of FE where I took over as course leader for BTEC National Diploma in Classical Music and A level music as well as teaching on the BTEC Pop course and the LGSM Jazz Diploma.
From here I moved to teaching part time at Bretton Hall College and Leeds University and LIPA in Liverpool. I have also worked on Masterclasses in Jazz performance, composition workshops and have even taught Djembe Drumming and Cuban percussion in Solihull as part of their Schools World Music Festival initiative.
I now teach piano and guitar in a couple of secondary schools in Leeds and Wakefield and have a number of private students. I am fully CRB checked and teach all levels from beginners through to degree level performance as well as associated board music theory and jazz harmony and composition.
